Early Influences
Los Angeles of the 1940s-60's provided a rich source of inspiration to the young Tim Soucy, who was born in Pasadena in the 1940s.
Growing up in a bright, palm-lined landscape surrounded by the chrome glories of Californian car culture , the elegance of the Art Deco, and Hollywood's eternal population of beautiful women began Tim 's lifelong love affair with design, adornment, and art
The Year that Changed the World
1968 was a pivotal year for just about everyone everywhere, and it certainly was for Tim. Touring Britain and Europe on a Triumph Bonneville, he found himself awestruck by Gaudi's Barcelona, the streets and canals of Amsterdam, and the glories of Coventry Cathedral and York Minister. And since Sunset Strip and Laurel Canyon were an integral part of his hometown's ongoing youthquake, he felt right at home in Swinging London where he saw the The Doors only UK performance at The Roundhouse .
Back to the Garden
Upon returning to Los Angeles, he headed north to the lush climate of the Pacific Northwest. It was here in the 1970s he earned his BS in History from Portland State University, was married, and became a father to Renee Soucy, a freelance writer.
Although he spent much of this time putting pencil to paper, a love for metalwork that began years earlier at Los Angeles Trade Tech found new life in the stained glass and mobile creations that Tim sold at the Portland State Bookstore.
By the dawn of the 80s Tim was living in the Puget Sound area, and his enduring love of metal work found him studying silversmithing and related subjects at the Pratt Art Institute and North Seattle Community College. From this foundation he continued to learn and experiment on his own, and soon began selling his work full-time.
Y2K and Beyond
The new millennium arrived, bringing to the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. the finest Art Nouveau show ever exhibited. The incredible experience of viewing this show, paired with the proximity and sense of intimacy with the works that it delivered, continues to influence Tim's work.
With two decades of experience behind him, Tim continues to attract new friends, customers and fellow artists, showing his work at art festivals, farmers markets and craft shows throughout the Pacific Northwest selling online and creating commissioned and custom pieces.
